Subscription boxes are a great way to try out new items each month, and without even leaving your couch! Read on to learn about some of the best vegan subscription boxes for 2021!
You will receive a box (usually monthly) that contains a variety of different cosmetics, beauty products, or other items.
The value of the items in the box is always a lot more than what you pay each month, so it’s an excellent way to try out a bunch of new products.
We know it can be hard to find cosmetic products that haven’t been tested on animals or don’t use animal products in their ingredients, which is why we want to share with you our findings.
Keep reading to find out what the best vegan subscription boxes are.
We’ll kick this list off with Petit Vour. If you’re wondering what on Earth this name means, a “petit vour” is a type of small, elegant French pastry.
So how come “Vour” instead of “four”? It’s simple; the “v” is for “vegan.” The company prides itself on distributing non-toxic, cruelty-free vegan cosmetics. As their tagline puts it, they’re the “crème de la cruelty-free.”
The company was founded back in 2012 because the founders were quite unsatisfied with the lack of quality cosmetics available that were also cruelty-free.
They set out to provide customers with a line of cosmetics that were not tested on any animals or made with any toxic or animal-based ingredients but were also up to the standards of other top-quality cosmetics.
What You Get
Petit Vour really does seem to go above and beyond when it comes to the service they deliver. How so? Let us tell you exactly what sets them apart from some of the competition.
What’s probably the most noteworthy detail about Petit Vour is that unlike other subscription boxes, when you sign up, you will be prompted to complete a personal beauty profile.
Here, you can provide Petit Vour with various details relevant to your makeup preferences, like your skin tone, eyebrow color, your preferred lip color, and more.
You don’t have to worry at all about receiving any beauty products that just aren’t compatible with you, because the personal beauty profile ensures that Petit Vour will send you stuff specifically for you!
Petit Vour offers two different subscriptions to choose from. The first is simply called the Beauty Box, and if you sign up for the Beauty Box, you’ll receive over $50 worth of vegan cosmetics each month for less than $20/month (although if you live outside of the U.S., it’s about $23-25 a month).
The second subscription is called the Beauty Box Plus. What’s different about the Beauty Box Plus is that it’s like a “best-of” version of the regular Beauty Box.
The Beauty Box Plus contains an assortment of the best-reviewed products from previous Beauty Boxes, and you also get far more stuff in the Beauty Box Plus (over $100 worth of vegan cosmetics for $25/month U.S.).
You can sign up for a Petit Vour subscription no matter where you live, although if you’re living outside of the U.S., the rates are a little more expensive.
Next up, we have Love Goodly. If vegan activism is particularly important to you, then you’ll probably be a big fan of Love Goodly because they combine their love of healthy and cruelty-free beauty products with their desire to make a positive change in the world.
They do this by donating a portion of the profits from each purchase to one of several causes. Currently, Love Goodly supports the following organizations:
- Farm Sanctuary, an organization that rescues and houses farm animals from cruel conditions and also tries to promote change through legislative activism.
- org, an organization dedicated to providing screening and treatment for women around the world who have cervical cancer. They also provide assistance and resources to other cervical cancer screening clinics.
- Beagle Freedom Project, an organization that seeks to free dogs and other animals from testing in laboratories.
- Paw Works, an organization dedicated to addressing the issue of pet abandonment by educating young people about responsible pet ownership as well as providing free spaying and neutering for pet owners in low-income areas.
The founders of Love Goodly, Justine, and Katie care deeply about these causes because they have a personal investment in them. Katie is a longtime vegan, and Justine is a survivor of breast cancer.
Love Goodly was founded and is run entirely by women, which is probably what you’d want from a company that designs vegan cosmetics for women.
What You Get
Love Goodly’s mission is to provide you with cosmetics that are entirely non-toxic and vegan, contain organic, non-GMO ingredients, and are produced in an eco-friendly way. Their boxes contain 4-5 items, which typically include some kind of beauty or skincare product, a style accessory, a wellness item, and occasionally some kind of healthy snack.
Unlike some of the other subscription boxes on this list, Love Goodly only sends their boxes out every two months. You can choose to sign up for the Essential Box or the VIP Box.
The VIP Box always contains the same items as the Essential Box, but the VIP Box also contains one additional full-sized item, usually worth at least $30.
The Essential Box costs $34.95 for a single box and contains about $75 worth of stuff, while the VIP Box costs $48.95 for a single box and contains at least $105 worth of items.
Love Goodly ships to anywhere in the U.S., and also ships to Canada (although you’ll pay an additional shipping cost of $16 if you place an order from Canada).
Kinder Beauty is another company that donates to various animal rights organizations so by purchasing their products you will also be contributing to their cause in helping animals. Some of theses organizations include;
- ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
- Farm Sanctuary
- Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation
- Compassion Over Killing
What You Get
Kinder Beauty also goes to lengths to ensure that their products are not just cruelty-free but are environmentally-friendly in general.
Every box you receive from them is made entirely from recycled materials and is both biodegradable and compostable (if you’re wondering what the difference is, compostable products only break down under specific conditions for composting, while biodegradable products naturally break down over time).
Not only that, but the packing materials inside the box are also made from recycled materials, and even the ink they use to print designs on the outside of the box is made from soy products, so it’s completely non-toxic.
Kinder Beauty works with a variety of different brands to provide you with a wide number of individual products. While not all of them use totally eco-friendly packaging, Kinder Beauty does its best to find brands that are environmentally-conscious in as many ways as possible.
Kinder Beauty differs from some of the other subscription box services on this list because they only offer one tier of service. There’s no option for any “premium” plan where you would receive more items; everyone who signs up for Kinder Beauty gets the same service.
Also, unlike some of the other services, you don’t have the option to order a single box. Instead, you’re forced to sign up for a monthly subscription. If you only want to order a single box, then your best bet is to sign up for the monthly subscription and then cancel your subscription as soon as you receive your box.
Kinder Beauty ships to most of North and South America, most of Europe, and Australia. They also ship to a few places in the Middle East, a few places in Asia, and a few places in Africa. If you want the full list of where they do and don’t ship to, check out Kinder Beauty’s FAQ section on their website.
Our second-to-last subscription service is Nourish. Like the other services on this list, Nourish is all about curating the best vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics from a variety of different brands.
Nourish is just as reputable as any of the other services we’ve talked about so far, although it doesn’t stand out quite as much as some of the others.
They don’t seem to have affiliations with any charity organizations or anything of that nature, nor do they have a quirky story about how exactly they came up with the name for their brand.
But it’s obviously not all about catchy names and affiliations with other organizations. Those things are all great, but at the end of the day, it’s the quality of the products you receive that really counts.
What You Get
Like Kinder Beauty, you only get access to one subscription tier through Nourish’s service. This monthly plan costs $29.95. However, the monthly plan is only available in the U.S. You can still order boxes and individual products from Nourish if you live outside of the U.S., but you can’t sign up for the monthly subscription.
Only one-off purchases are available for countries outside the States. You can look at their FAQ if you want the complete list of countries that Nourish will ship their products to.
For Americans, you’ll get at least four full-sized items in each subscription box. What’s different about Nourish compared to other subscription services is that they actually provide a preview of the contents of each month’s box.
Unlike other services where you have practically no clue what you’re getting until it arrives, with Nourish, you can see in advance what the contents of the new box are going to be.
If you’re not feeling in the mood for the curated boxes, Nourish also has the option for you to create your own box featuring your personal selection of products! Custom boxes are only available as one-off purchases, however.
The Vegan Kind
Finally, we’ll wrap up this list by talking about The Vegan Kind. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, The Vegan Kind only ships their boxes to locations in the U.K.
As their name implies, this company is all about veganism and making the vegan lifestyle easily accessible to everyone.
The company was first launched in 2013, and they now ship over 80,000 boxes of vegan products to customers each year. They also have a hand in vegan activism, and each month The Vegan Kind donates some of its profits to Animal-Free Research U.K., a charity that seeks to promote research into product testing that uses no animals.
What You Get
The Vegan Kind is another bi-monthly subscription service. For £12.75 each payment period, you get a box containing a variety of different cosmetics like perfume, eyeliner, lip balm, moisturizer, and cleansing oil, among others.
You can pay month-to-month, or you can pay for a year’s worth of subscription boxes all at once. It’s worth noting that most of the other subscription services on this list also allow you to do this.
The Vegan Kind has two types of subscription boxes available: the Beauty Box and the Lifestyle box. The Beauty Box is what you want if you’re interested in cosmetic products and beauty items.
The Lifestyle Box is a subscription service, where every two months, you’ll receive a box containing a bunch of tasty vegan snacks. Unlike the Beauty Box though, they will ship it to your location outside of the U.K.
Which Service Is the Best?
When it comes to which service you should choose, as it is with many things, it all depends on your own personal preference.
If you want to go with a company that actively tries to make a positive change in the community, then Love Goodly or Kinder Beauty might be your top picks. And, if you happen to live in the U.K., The Vegan Kind is probably the service you should go with.
Nourish might be the best option for you if you’re not much into surprises each month.
If you’re looking for a fun way to try out a variety of vegan cosmetics, all of these services are among the best available. Enjoy!
